A room with no corners to put anything in.
The plan is a circle, which means there is nowhere to push a sofa against — so nothing is pushed anywhere. Furniture sits away from the walls and you walk around the back of it, the way you would around a fire. The stone is local, split rather than sawn, and it runs from the outside wall through the glass line to the inside without a joint, so on a bright afternoon you cannot tell where the building stops. The fireplace is the only fixed thing in the room. It is lit for you before dinner if you are in, and it draws well enough to leave open.
Wrapped in glazing on three sides, the suite holds the valley from dawn to dusk. The fireplace anchors the long alpine evenings; the terrace carries the fire outdoors.
